For When You Don’t Feel Like You Are Doing Enough in Your Homeschool

Whether your family follows a curriculum, or a particular homeschooling method, does your own thing or completely unschools; we all have days of self doubt.

When we are (pretty much) our children’s sole educators we alone are shouldering the responsibility for their education and that can be a daunting task.

For this reason I know many families prefer to use a bought, pre-made curriculum so they can check the boxes someone else made for them and feel like they are doing what they are supposed to. It helps remove some of the feelings of responsibility and overwhelm.

No matter what method of homeschooling you have chosen for your family for this stage of your life, no matter how certain you are of it some days, the self doubt is still able to creep in at times.

  1. Hey – I’ve been reading your blog and wondering if you could give me advice. My husband and I are from Milestone, Sask and are looking to adopt from Africa. We have one daughter who is 5 but are unable to have any more kids after some surgeries I had to have. We just started filling in the initial paperwork but wondering which agency you guys used and if you can give me more info on who to contact? It’s overwhelming at this point.

    1. Hi Malory! We went through Mission of Tears in Ontario who have since change their name to Family By Adoption. We went through their South Africa program: http://familybyadoption.com/south-africa/ It’s been a few years since we were in the stages of contacting them but I remember them being not very good with responding to emails when I was inquiring, I had much better success with phoning the agency and getting the initial information, then when we were signed on with them they were great with corresponding via email. Let me know if you have any other questions! Oh, are you a part of the Canadian International Adoption group on Facebook? I haven’t checked it in awhile but last I knew there were quite a few active people with lots of great information: https://www.facebook.com/groups/249733911824938/?ref=br_rs

  2. Thank you so much for getting back to me! We just sent our paperwork this morning with the Application to Family By Adoption. South Africa currently isn’t an option but they have recommended Haiti so here we go starting this journey. We have a 5 year old daughter & can’t have any more children. When in the process with Family By Adoption did you start telling family/friends and do you wish you would have waited longer? We are meeting with the Intercountry Adoption Worker at the Ministry of Social Services in 2 weeks time to go over the application we sent to them. It’s very overwhelming and exciting but party of me doesn’t want to get my hopes up only to have it not work out. God has placed adoption in my heart from a young child…maybe for such a time as this.

    1. Family by Adoption was actually our fourth agency/third country in the adoption process. We told family and friends after we had been accepted by the first agency. It was a long and bumpy journey and it was good to have people that were praying for us and asking how things were going during the process.

Best of luck with everything! I would love it if you let me know how everything goes! Are you on Instagram?
