advocate // for the orphan // orphan prevention

Most of you know that orphans is where my heart is at. Since I was a teenage I have dreamed about starting my own children’s home for orphans. I could throw facts and resources at you all day long in this category -but maybe I’ll just break it into a few different posts. My friend Ashley is doing a series on her blog right now on five steps you can take to care for the orphan, check it out here! If you have missed the previous advocate posts you can check them out: for the enslaved and trafficked for the thirsty //   //   //   //   //  …

    advocate // for the thirsty

Lack of access to clean water and sanitation kills children at a rate equivalent of a jumbo jet crashing every four hours. An American taking a five-minute shower uses more water than the average person in a developing country slum uses for an entire day. More than 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene-related causes. Nearly all deaths, 99 percent, occur in the developing world. //   //   //   //   //   //   //   //  //  //  // The thing that gets me about the whole issue of water is that through some organizations (such as causelife) it only costs $15…

advocate // for the enslaved and trafficked // it wasn’t supposed to happen this way

{photo source}   When I thought of doing this advocate series last week my purpose for the series was to help people who were not currently passionate about a cause find one to be passionate about. While I know God may still work in people like that through this series, I’ve also come to realize that He is creating more passion in me for the underprivileged in the world. Particularly for the enslaved and trafficked. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. I already had “my thing”. Orphans have been my passion since I was a teenager. I’ve always dreamed of opening up an orphanage. One that is run honestly, where the children…

advocate // for the enslaved and trafficked // books

Is anyone else feeling as burdened for the enslaved and trafficked as I am? This series is completely breaking me. Today I wanted to share some books on this topic. These books were all recommendations and I have yet to read any of them (though you can bet I have requested about 10 of them from my library so far). If you know of any more books on this topic, please let me know.   Undaunted – Christine Caine Christine Caine offers life-transforming insights about how not only to overcome the challenges, wrong turns, and often painful circumstances we all experience, but also to actually grow from those experiences and be equipped and…

advocate // for the enslaved and trafficked // a list of organizations

A year ago I was completely oblivious to modern day slavery and human trafficking. Completely. Last summer I read The Scent of Water and my eyes began to open. In the last six months I have done some research but I know I have only scratched the surface of a worldwide problem. //   //   //   //   //   //   //   //  //  //  // Forced labor, sex trafficking, child farming, involuntary service, bonded labor and child soldiers . . . There are 27 million people enslaved around the world today. Approximately 50% of those people are children. There are more slaves now than at…

advocate // for the enslaved and trafficked // introduction

I am really excited to launch this advocate series, and thrilled that there are others out there that are excited too! My original intent was to do one post per topic/cause but as I’ve quickly some to realize, the topics are so much more in depth than that. Some might just be one post, others will definitely be multiple. I randomly chose to start with the enslaved and trafficked and the information I’ve come across has been overwhelming, not to mention gut wrenching and heart breaking. I’ve come across so much information that I will be breaking it down into a few different posts over the next week or so. My goal…
