advocate // for the poor // shoe cutting party

I know this advocate series has been kind of all over the place but I’ve been researching and posting about different areas and organizations as God leads me to them.

This post I am incredibly excited about. I think it is hard for people in developed countries to feel like they can do something tangible for people around the world but I was introduced to an organization that I think does a great job of doing just that.

The organization is: Sole Hope. They were inspired by this video on YouTube (just to warn you, it is a little graphic):

From their site: It shows Ugandan children who are seriously infected with jiggers, small sand fleas that enter bare feet and burrow into the skin. If left untreated, jiggers become a huge problem, leading to infections, paralysis and even amputation.

Their response? Education, medical relief, jobs for women and shoes for children to help prevent the jiggers from getting into their feet.

And my favorite part? We can help make some shoes for these children.

Last week I ordered a shoe cutting party kit which will hopefully be delivered in the next week or two and then I plan on setting a date to host a shoe cutting party. I will post more details once I get the kit in my hands but in the meantime, if you live in the area and are interested in coming over and helping me cut out some fabric to help make some shoes for children in Zambia and Uganda let me know!! I’d love it if we could make a ton of shoes.

If you don’t live in the area I would encourage you to purchasing your own kit and hosting your own shoe cutting party. By this simple step we can help provide jobs for the poor, and shoes for children.
